Why is there Teflon and Kynar extended delivery

Throughout the last year, the business has had more difficulties than I have come across in my thirty years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have witnessed several shortages, and delivery delays stemming from material allocations through plastic resin companies. This is the first occasion I have seen all these issues at the same time.

PTFE Sheet (TFE) and Kynar are both on allocation.

This pair of resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheet suppliers product PTFE (TFE) as well as Kynar  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that's mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide interest in this mineral has grown significantly, additionally, the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used throughout dozens of purposes from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for home use. This mineral is actually a critical raw material within the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and a lot of refrigerants.This surge in demand mixed with shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double throughout the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
